Colnaghi and Carlo Bella are pleased to announce their participation in Salon Art + Design 2026, where they will present a selection of works at Stand A14, Park Avenue Armory, New York, from 4 to 8 November.
Among the works on view will be James Hamilton Shegogue’s Portrait of Edward Seguin (1840) and Charles Bird King’s Portrait of Jean Lafitte. Seguin, an English opera singer, was honoured as an honorary chief of the Huron-Wendat Nation in Quebec, and Shegogue’s portrait records a remarkable moment of nineteenth-century cultural and diplomatic exchange.
King, meanwhile, is best known for the more than one hundred portraits he made of Indigenous delegates visiting Washington between 1821 and 1842. His portrait of Lafitte recalls another episode in early American history; Lafitte and his Baratarians assisted Andrew Jackson’s forces during the campaign that culminated in the Battle of New Orleans in 1815.
These paintings will be presented alongside works of African art, including masks by Pende, Grebo, Bamileke and Yaka artists, as well as a Hemba stool and a Dogon ladder. Together, the selection brings distinct artistic and cultural histories into conversation.
Studio Valle De Valle will provide a selection of original and vintage furnishings for the presentation.
