Exhibition Upcoming

Miguel Jacinto Meléndez, Portrait of Philip V, King of Spain, oil on canvas, 134 × 155 cm (52 ¾ × 61 in).

Colnaghi is delighted to make its debut at FERIARTE, Madrid’s leading art and antiques fair, where it will present a selection that spans the Spanish Golden Age to the early twentieth century on Stand 3D04.

The presentation opens with a commanding work by Diego Velázquez, shown alongside Miguel Jacinto Meléndez’s depiction of Philip V, King of Spain. The tradition of Spanish still life is represented in Juan de Arellano’s study of shells and flowers, a composition of striking naturalism and refinement.

Francisco de Goya is represented with two works, including El apóstol Santiago y sus discípulos adorando a la Virgen del Pilar (1775), and José Álvarez Cubero’s marble bust of the composer Gioachino Rossini introduces a sculptural note of neoclassical elegance to the display.

An impressive group of works by Joaquín Sorolla provides a sweeping view of his practice, from radiant Mediterranean seascapes at Javea and Zarauz to more intimate studies of his family. Together these works trace the artist’s mastery of light across subjects both grand and domestic.

We look forward to welcoming you in Madrid this October for this exciting new chapter.
