Colnaghi and Colnaghi Elliott are thrilled to return to TEFAF Maastricht (March 13—20), bringing an exceptional collection of antiques, sculptures, paintings, and drawings that span from Egyptian Antiquity to the Gilded Age. We warmly invite you to join us at our stands no. 304 (Colnaghi) and 615 (Colnaghi Elliott), where you can embark on an extraordinary journey through the ages with us.
Among the treasures of antiquity featured at our stand, we are especially proud to present the Narcissus, a Hadrianic marble whose irresistible beauty has been impeccably preserved across the millennia. Moving to the resplendent 17th century, we are pleased to showcase a remarkable selection of masterpieces from this period, including the strikingly beautiful and intimate Carrara marble sculpture of Christ Receiving the Baptism by Jacopo di Palma. From the collection of Don Sebastián Gabriel de Borbón y Braganza, Infante of Spain and Portugal, we are honoured to present St. Peter in Prison by Giovanni Francesco Barbieri (known as Guercino). This exquisite painting depicts the saint bathed in the delicate, divine light of his saving angel, capturing the moment of divine supplication with consummate grace.
Crowning our collection and completing a trifecta of profound meditations on humanity’s relationship with the divine is a remarkable St. Jerome by Jusepe de Ribera (known as Spagnoletto). A masterpiece of Spagnoletto’s virtuosity, this work, from the collection of the first Duke of Lafes, portrays the aging saint with a finely detailed expression of religious study and devotion. The St. Jerome is a proud addition to Colnaghi's history with Spagnoletto which includes the notable Tears of St Peter, an exquisite painting which Colnaghi's CEO Jorge Coll had the honour to source for the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2012.
Colnaghi is also proud to present two exceptional works by celebrated women artists. From the Spanish Golden Age, we invite you to discover the ethereal painted terracotta Madonna by Luisa Roldán (known as Roldana), court sculptor to Charles II and Philip V. Concluding our journey through the centuries, we present Emma Soyer’s tender depiction of childhood affection, The Two Inseparables, exhibited at the British Institution just a year after its creation.
To mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of J. M. W. Turner, our dedicated master drawings gallery Colnaghi Elliott will be presenting three extraordinary works by Turner at stand 615, including a gouache of the fortress town of Givet rediscovered in 2008, rendered in the soft, glowing tones that define Turner’s later easel work. Colnaghi Elliott will also be presenting an exceptionally limpid medallion portrait by Ingres and a delightfully intricate Testa Fantastica by Ligozzi.
We look forward to welcoming you to our stands (304 and 615) and presenting these exceptional treasures from across the centuries. Our team would be delighted to answer any of your questions, so please do not hesitate to inquire in person or contact us via email at enquiries@colnaghi.com. We look forward to seeing you soon.
